St. Paul’s Chapel opened in 1766 and has been continuously operating since then. It survived the fire of 1776 and was where many of the founding fathers prayed including George Washington who famously went there after his inauguration on April 30, 1789. The first public artwork commissioned for America was the Tomb of Richard Montgomery. After September 11th St. Paul’s was the ‘Chapel that Stood’.
Please join cultureNOW, the Lower Manhattan Historical Association, the Federal Hall Conservancy & Trinity Wall Street for an symposium highlighting the cultural richness of this amazing church followed by an informal look at some of the historic documents, a tour of the building and graveyard led by the architects and afternoon Tea.
